In what direction
do I want to
develop my career?

Find out for yourself which aspects are important to you in your career
– with Edgar Schein’s Career Anchor Test
Sometimes it’s not so easy to figure out what truly fulfills us in our careers. Sure, the job has to be financially viable – but that alone doesn’t bring long-term satisfaction. So what is it that drives you? The Career Anchor Test helps you gain a clearer understanding of your professional priorities: What gives you stability, what motivates you, and in what kind of environment can you fully unlock your potential?
Career anchors, a concept developed by Edgar Schein, help you identify your deepest professional motivations and values. Just as an anchor holds a ship in place, your personal career anchors provide you with direction. They allow for movement, but within a clearly defined radius, always bringing you back to what truly matters to you.
There are eight of these anchors, based on different needs—ranging from independence and creativity, through security and stability, to technical expertise or the desire for meaning. Your career anchor is the central guiding principle that significantly influences your professional decisions and your satisfaction.
Once you know your anchor, you’ll better understand which work environments and tasks truly suit you—and which don’t. This allows you to steer your career more consciously, make decisions with clarity, and find greater fulfillment in your work over the long term.
So the question is: What direction do your career anchors point you toward?

Immediately after completing the assessment, you will receive your score for each career anchor along with the characteristics of each anchor. An email address is not required, but if you provide one, you will also receive the results in writing for future reference.
Answer the questions quickly and intuitively. Choose only one answer per question – a number between 1 and 6.
Then, please identify the questions with the highest scores and select the three that are most important to you.
1 = Does not apply at all, 6 = Applies completely
